The Nodal Shift Into Gates 30 and 29 — It Will Test Every Commitment You Make

North Node: Gate 30 | South Node: Gate 29 | Active: July 25 - Nov 26

Let's skip the soft intro and get right to it.

As of May 13th, the north and south nodes shift from gates 55 and 59 into gates 30 and 29. And if you've been feeling a sudden surge of "I want to do ALL the things" energy, now you know why.

This transit is here to show you exactly where your feelings and your follow-through are out of sync.

But before we get into what's coming, let's acknowledge where we've been. The last several months have been a lot. Most recently the nodes were moving through gates 55 and 59 — gate 55 in the solar plexus searching for meaning, spirit, and something worth believing in, and gate 59 in the sacral dissolving the walls between ourselves and other people. That combination was intimate, heavy, and emotionally exhausting in the best possible way. It asked you to feel things you'd been avoiding and get honest about who you actually wanted close to you.

Before that, the nodes were moving through gates 37 and 40 — putting a spotlight on every agreement in your life that was out of alignment, every "yes" you said when you meant "no," every community you were showing up for out of obligation instead of genuine care. The through-line of the last several months has essentially been: get honest or get uncomfortable. Most of us got both. So if you're arriving at this new transit feeling a little raw, a little tired, or like you've just finished processing something you can't fully name — that's not a coincidence. That's the setup. What's coming next is the activation.

What the Nodes, Gates 30, and gate 29 Actually Are

In Human Design, the north and south nodes are always in opposing gates in the mandala — they're calculated points, not a channel in the traditional bodygraph sense. But the themes of the gates they occupy become amplified in the collective field during the transit, meaning everyone is feeling this energy whether they have these gates defined in their own chart or not.

Right now those gates are 30 and 29 — and their themes couldn't be more relevant to where we've just been.

Gate 30: Feelings — AKA deep emotions

Gate 30 lives in the solar plexus. It's the gate of feelings — deep, intense, all-consuming feelings about experiences, possibilities, and what life could hold. When Gate 30 is active, emotional intensity is high. You feel things completely. The shadow here is placing unrealistic expectations on upcoming experiences in the hopes that they'll deliver the deep feeling you're looking for — and then hitting chronic disappointment when they don't. Or swinging the other direction entirely: detaching from life emotionally because feeling everything became too much.

Gate 30 doesn't settle. It longs. And right now, that longing is collective.

Gate 29: Perseverance — AKA Commitment

Gate 29 lives in the sacral center. It's the gate of commitment — the "yes" gate, the one that devotes itself fully, follows through with remarkable endurance, and has the stamina to sustain. When Gate 29 is working well, it's deeply devoted and capable of showing up consistently for the things that matter. When it's running on autopilot? It over-commits to nearly everything — promising time, energy, and expertise, only to burn out or flake out on commitments it never should have made in the first place.

Gate 29 is why you have seven things on your plate right now that you can't figure out how to unload. Every yes writes a check your energy has to cash.

What This Means as a Collective

The north node in Gate 30 is pulling us toward our feelings as a teacher. Not feelings as something to chase or suppress — feelings as information. The emotional intensity you're experiencing right now is pointing toward something. Your job is to stay curious about what that is rather than immediately acting on it.

The south node in Gate 29 is showing us where we've been over-committing out of habit, obligation, or fear of missing out. It's the pattern we're being asked to release — the reflexive "yes," the people-pleasing stamina, the belief that if you just work hard enough and stay committed long enough, something that was never right for you will eventually become right.

Spoiler alert: it won't.

The tension between these two gates is the whole point of this transit. Emotional intensity wants to move toward experience. Commitment wants to hold on. And the question being asked right now — collectively, in your relationships, in your work, in your life — is: are you committing to things that genuinely light you up, or are you just really good at following through?

Those are not the same thing.

How Might this manifest in your Life Now - What to Expect

This isn't a quick one. The nodes will be moving through these gates through November, which means this isn't energy to white-knuckle through — it's energy to actually learn to work with. You might feel any of the following through this transit:

  • A sudden surge of intensity around something new (a project, a person, an idea)

  • Restlessness with commitments that used to feel fine

  • A nagging feeling that you said yes to something you should have thought about longer

  • Deep emotional longing — for an experience, an outcome, a feeling you can't quite name

  • Difficulty letting go of something that has clearly run its course

  • Burnout from commitments you technically chose but don't actually want

  • Expectations about upcoming experiences that feel almost too big — and a quiet fear they won't deliver

None of this is a problem. It's data. The transit is working.

The Shadow Side (And Why It Matters)

Let's be direct about what can go sideways here.

The Gate 30 shadow is emotional detachment or emotional overwhelm. When Gate 30 is conditioned or running unconsciously, it either goes completely numb — an existential disconnection from life — or it places enormous expectations on experiences in hopes that this one will finally deliver the deep feeling it's been searching for. When those experiences inevitably fall short, the disappointment compounds. Rinse, repeat.

Gate 30 can also tip into reckless behavior when it feels emotionally constrained — a kind of personal rebellion that doesn't account for the impact on others.

The Gate 29 shadow is the compulsive "yes." It shows up in two ways: either you avoid commitment entirely because every yes feels overwhelming and potentially draining — which can look like laziness or lack of motivation when it's actually self-protection. Or you swing the other direction and over-commit to nearly everything that sounds exciting, only to burn out or quietly disappear from obligations you never had the bandwidth for in the first place.

The question isn't whether you can follow through. You can. Gate 29 has tremendous stamina. The question is whether you should.

Put them together: you're making emotional, impulsive commitments in pursuit of experiences you've built up in your mind — and then your Gate 29 stamina keeps you locked in well past the point of wisdom because you made a promise and you don't quit.

Sound familiar? Good. Now we can work with it.

Action Plan For This Transit

This is not a season to be passive. Here's how to actually use this energy instead of being dragged by it over the next 3 months.

Transit Check-In: Gate 29

Pull up your calendar and look back to early July. What have you said yes to since then? For each one, ask one simple question: did I say yes because it genuinely excited me, or because it felt hard to say no?

That's it. You're not auditing your whole life — just the window. Gate 29's energy has been loud lately and it moves fast. This is just a quick gut-check on whether your recent yeses were actually yours.

Pay attention to how you are committing to things through this transit (November).

The Gift...if you Choose to Accept It

Here's what I don't want you to miss: this transit is also genuinely powerful.

When Gate 30's emotional depth is met with Gate 29's devoted follow-through — when you're fully committed to something that actually lights you up — the energy available right now is some of the most focused, alive, magnetic energy you'll feel all year. Your feelings become your compass. Your commitment becomes your superpower. You're all in on the right things and you have the endurance to see them through.

That's available to you right now. But only if you're honest about what you actually feel — and what you're committing to because it genuinely matters, not because you said you would.

The universe isn't asking you to want less or feel less. It's asking you to channel all that intensity toward things that are actually worth it.

The Bottom Line

The nodes in gates 30 and 29 are here to show you where your emotional intensity and your commitments are — or aren't — aligned. This transit will bring depth of feeling and the pull to leap before you look. It will also surface every commitment you've been maintaining out of momentum rather than genuine choice.

Your job: feel it all, but don't chase it. Audit what Gate 29 has been holding. Let Gate 30's emotional depth teach you something about what you actually want — before you commit to the next thing that promises to deliver it.

And if you want to understand how these gates show up specifically in your chart — not just in the collective transit — that's exactly what a personalized Human Design report is for.
